In March of 1966 in Anaheim, California, brothers Paul Van Doren, James Van Doren, Gordon Lee and two others opened up the first Vans store. The Van Doren Rubber Company manufactured shoes and sold them directly to the public. On that first morning, twelve customers purchased Vans deck shoes, which are now known as the "Authentic".
This marked the beginning of one of the most culturally rich, influential, longstanding stalwarts of the skateboard industry. Continually evolving, but always keeping solidly planted in their indie spirited skate shoe roots.
